How to Personalize a Carousel in Sitecore with Brainjocks SCORE

Just for fun, let’s take a few common scenarios for content management teams, and run through how to add personalization to Sitecore with Brainjocks SCORE.  You’ll be shocked at how easy this is – why more companies don’t jump in and start personalizing their content and user experience is a mystery to me.

Scenario #1 – Personalizing Content within a Carousel Panel

Since SCORE is build on atomic design, each component is personalizable within Sitecore.  This one is too easy, just point and shoot.

Scenario #2 – Personalizing an Entire Carousel Panel

A carousel panel is NOT a single component, so I can’t just use out of the box personalization to target it.  The panel is a container that contains structural and content components along with some styling information.  Let’s grab one of these panels and setup a new personalization rule.  We’ll start by converting the panel into a Snippet via the Snapshot tool, the rest is easy.

Scenario #3 – Personalizing the Whole Carousel

Now that you’ve seen how we can personalize an individual panel within the carousel, you can use the same technique to personalize the entire carousel.  In this case, I’ll swap the carousel out for another that includes panels that target visitors who arrived at the site via a campaign.  Again, we’ll start by using the Snapshot tool to convert the carousel on the page into a Snippet, then we’ll add in our personalization.

Given the complexity of adding a special built carousel, we want to use the “out of the box” one as closely as possible.  So, since it’s atomic, the carousel is actually built from over 20 individual pieces.  Personalization won’t be easy, but then Snippets come to the rescue!

Now we’re talking about personalization of a carousel, but this really could have been anything.  Sidebar, tabset panels, accordions – all of them are targets for our lonely marketer …. they can do it all!

Since it’s atomic, the carousel is actually built from over 20 individual pieces.  Personalization won’t be easy, but then Snippets come to the rescue!
